EasyLocated in the heart of the South Icelandic countryside, Hotel Eldhestar is dedicated to raising Icelandic horses, which are robust and friendly, and you will have the chance to meet them.
Its unique location, both close to the town of Hveragerdi and isolated amidst lava fields, makes it the perfect spot for observing the Northern Lights in winter.
There’s no need for a bus to admire the auroras dancing in the sky. Another highlight, Eldhestar was the first hotel in Iceland to receive the Nordic Swan eco-certification and has since received two awards for its ecological commitment.
Departures:
January 18 and 25, 2025
February 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2025
March 1 and 8, 2025
Detailed program
DAY 1 | PARIS / REYKJAVIK
Flight to Reykjavik on a scheduled flight.
Arrival at Keflavik International Airport according to individual flights. For those arriving in the morning, the bus will drop you off in Reykjavik for free time and will pick you up in the late afternoon with the rest of the group arriving in the afternoon.
Meet with the French-speaking tour guide, then transfer and check-in at your hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Eldhestar.
DAY 2 | SNOWMOBILE SAFARI / GULLFOSS / GEYSIR / GEOTHERMAL BAKERY (approx. 165 KM)
Breakfast at the hotel.
You will start the day with a snowmobile safari on the eastern flank of the Langjökull glacier. Board a monster truck with impressive wheels to reach the summit of Iceland’s second-largest glacier – thrills guaranteed! After a safety demonstration and usage instructions, hop on your snowmobile (two people per snowmobile – the driver must have a valid driver’s license) and enjoy breathtaking landscapes and a stunning view over the Icelandic plains.
Optional lunch.
Continue with a visit to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall. The “Golden Falls” owe their name to the golden rainbow that forms above the gorge when the weather is clear. While Gullfoss is not the highest waterfall in Iceland, it is certainly one of the most majestic.
Proceed to the geothermal area of Geysir. The most famous geyser, Geysir, which gave its name to the phenomenon, has become inactive, making Strokkur the only active geyser in the area. With eruptions occurring every 5 to 7 minutes on average, you can fully enjoy this incredible spectacle.
You will end the day with a visit to the Fontana geothermal bakery in Laugarvatn. Head to the black sand beach where you will dig up a rye bread that was buried the day before to bake under the surface, where temperatures reach up to 98 degrees Celsius. You will taste this delicious traditional bread, accompanied by butter and Icelandic smoked fish. Return to your hotel.
If the weather permits, your guide may accompany you around the hotel to observe the Northern Lights.
Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Eldhestar.
DAY 3 | THE SOUTH COAST (approx. 290 KM
Breakfast at the hotel.
Discover the south coast of Iceland, starting with the magnificent Skogafoss waterfall. If the weather allows, you can also climb the stairs along the waterfall and get closer to its top. On sunny days, rainbows are often visible. Continue to the Solheimajökull glacier, where, weather permitting, you can approach the glacier’s base and touch the ice with your own hands. This glacier sits perfectly between mountains and its basin of opaque waters. The glacier’s layers show ash from various eruptions over millennia. Proceed to the charming village of Vik and its typical church.
Optional lunch.
Continue to Reynisfjara, where you can admire its stunning black sand beach and basalt columns, rock formations resembling organ pipes. The sea stacks offshore create a science fiction-like landscape. Your final stop will be the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, towering and magnificent, offering the experience of walking behind its veil (weather permitting). In the heart of winter, this waterfall and its structures, stairs, and walkway are covered in ice, giving an otherworldly appearance to this sublime cascade.
If the weather permits, your guide may accompany you around the hotel to observe the Northern Lights.
Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Eldhestar.
DAY 4 | THINGVELLIR / REYKJAVIK / SECRET LAGOON (approx. 320 KM)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Start your day with a visit to Thingvellir National Park, a key site in Icelandic history as the original gathering place of one of the world’s oldest parliaments, the Althing, founded in 930 AD. Here, you can admire the rift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. This geological activity is also visible in the Silfra fissure, where crystal-clear waters allow you to see the underwater environment for dozens of meters.
Next, head to the capital for a panoramic tour. Discover the charms of this human-sized city, passing by the intriguing Hallgrimskirkja church, the lively Laugavegur street, and the Harpa Concert Hall, a true architectural masterpiece.
Optional lunch.
You’ll end your day with a swim in the natural spring of Fluðir called the Secret Lagoon. Built in 1891, this pool is Iceland’s oldest. Generations of locals have bathed and lounged here. The water stays between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius year-round. Walkways have been built around the pool allowing you to admire the geothermal activity fueling it. Nestled in a valley in the heart of Icelandic countryside, the Secret Lagoon is the perfect place to commune with nature while relaxing. Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel!
If the weather permits, your guide may accompany you around the hotel to observe the Northern Lights.
Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Eldhestar.

Don’t forget your winter clothes (optional activity).

After getting to know these lovable and sturdy creatures, let them carry you through the moors and introduce you to their natural environment (optional).

You’ll be guided through the cave and discover what makes Iceland both intense and dramatic: sustained geological activity and immense powers. Lunch will be served by your local guides (optional).

Good to know
The climate in Iceland is temperate and moderate. The cold in winter remains bearable. However, travelers should still cover themselves to protect against rain and wind. Therefore, your travelers should bring windproof and waterproof clothing. The trick in Iceland is to layer clothing as interiors are heated with geothermal energy and can be heated up to 25 degrees. Please inform travelers to bring:
- Hiking boots that support the ankles
- Snow crampons (not for ice) (crampons can be rented on-site – price to be confirmed with the guide on-site)
- Rain pants
- Waterproof and windproof coat
- Gloves, hat, and scarf (neck warmer)
- Spare t-shirts and lighter clothing for meals/evenings
