Located in Solvorn, on the banks of the Sognefjord, the Walaker Hotel is Norway’s oldest family-run hotel, with over 380 years of history. Owned by the Nitter family since 1690, it combines cultural heritage with hospitality.

Today, Ole Henrik Nitter, the 9^th generation, continues its traditions with passion.

The Walaker Hotel offers four types of accommodation. The main building and Tingstova offer historic rooms with fjord or garden views. The annex offers modern, spacious rooms, while Villa Walaker, inaugurated in 2024, combines contemporary comfort with privacy. A perfect balance between history and modernity.

The garden, surrounded by mountains, is a haven of peace with a magnificent view of the fjord. Each evening, a refined 4-course menu is offered, encouraging warm moments between guests.

The main building

Built mainly between 1630 and 1650, it has served as an inn and guest house. Restored in 1934 by the architect Lindstrøm, it offers 7 historic rooms: 4 overlooking the fjord and 3 overlooking the valley. Rooms 20 and 23 offer exceptional views of the rose garden and the fjord.

Tingstova

The oldest building, dating from 1630, was completely renovated in 2001/2002. Upstairs, 4 unique rooms reflect styles from different eras. All offer views of the garden and fjord, except room 50, which faces the valley.

The annex

Built in 1964 and renovated in the 1990s, it offers spacious, modern rooms with large bathrooms and garden furniture. All have views of the garden and fjord. These rooms are classified as ‘Superior’.

Villa Walaker

Opened in 2024, this modern house located 100 metres from the main building offers 4 rooms with private outdoor areas. It combines modern comfort with the historic ambience of the hotel.

Catering

At the Walaker Hotel, the cuisine celebrates the natural riches of the Sogn region: langoustines from the fjord, mountain game, berries, farmhouse cheeses, homemade apple juice and raspberry nectar…

Dinner, the highlight of the experience, is a 4-course menu with wine pairings, served at 7.30pm in the main building. After dinner, you can visit the Walaker 300 art gallery.

Breakfast includes homemade bread and jams made with produce from the garden.

Gallery Walaker 300

To celebrate the 300-year jubilee of the Nitter Walaker family at the hotel in 1990, Gallery Walaker 300 was opened in the old out-house building just behind the hotel.

The building as it stands today was built in 1883, using material from a wooden church built in Solvorn in about 1600. Exhibitions by local and nationally known artists are held in this heritage building.
