After years of traveling the world as a businessman, Friðrik Pálsson wanted to create a place where guests could experience the best of Iceland in a luxurious setting. Being a hotelier is his passion, and nothing brings him more joy than seeing a happy guest discover the fantastic treasure that his country is.

Standard room

In the Standard room, the details stand out: hand-painted murals, complimentary coffee and tea, cozy bathrobes, and plush slippers. These rooms provide a retreat for the sophisticated traveler after a day filled with adventures. The rooms feature either two twin beds or one double bed.

Deluxe room

Inspirées de la culture islandaise traditionnelle, Les chambres Deluxe présentent des peintures murales peintes à la main par des artistes locaux et des meubles en bois. Un canapé en cuir confortable est l’endroit idéal pour siroter un apéritif l’après-midi et admirer la vue sur la rivière Rangá ou le volcan Hekla. Les chambres comprennent soit deux lits jumeaux soit un lit double.

Views of the Rangá River flowing through pristine countryside. Direct access to geothermal spas. Full-size Murphy beds integrated and spacious seating areas. Need I say more? The rooms feature either two twin beds or one double bed, plus an integrated Murphy bed.

Junior Suite

In the stunning Junior Suites, you’ll instantly find yourself transported to another continent. Handcrafted furniture and original artwork create an ambiance that’s both authentic and imaginative.

Each Junior Suite features an adjoining balcony with a view of the Rangá River meandering through the Icelandic countryside. The rooms are spacious with a seating area and plush king-size beds. Additional beds can be added upon request

The epitome of luxury, our Master Suites are meticulously designed to transport guests to another continent for the night. Showcasing artwork from around the world, each room is truly one-of-a-kind. An outside balcony provides a spectacular view of the Icelandic landscape and the magnificent Rangá River. Wake up

Did you know that the Northern Lights can appear at any time during the night? From sunset to sunrise, you can never predict exactly when the show will begin. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Our Aurora Wake-Up service ensures that guests never miss a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Simply press a button on your in-room phone and receive a call whenever the Northern Lights are expected to appear.

Observatory

The observatory is located approximately 150 meters east of the hotel. With just a push of a button, the roof rolls out of sight, revealing the magnificent night sky above. Tall walls shield our guests from the cold wind, but we also provide cozy snow gear to keep you warm while stargazing. About 20 people can stand inside the observatory at once and behold the Milky Way in all its splendor.

Telescope 1

The 14-inch Celestron Edge HD Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector is an ideal choice for observing, astrophotography, and imaging objects beyond our solar system. It offers exceptional sharpness, resolution, and potential for magnification.

Telescope 2

The TEC 160ED APO refractor on an Astrophysics 900 mount is wonderful for observation and astrophotography, allowing our guests to closely view the beauty of space, including detailed glimpses of stars and planets. On clear nights from September to April, Hotel Rangá invites a local astronomer to guide guests through a tour of the dazzling night sky. These experts can assist you in using high-tech telescopes to see stars and planets with incredible detail. Turn your gaze to space and discover the wonders of the night sky, the stories behind ancient constellations, and the formation of distant stars and planets.

Tours en Buggy

Buggy excursions offer a unique and thrilling way to experience the incredible Icelandic landscape. The buggies are two-seater 4X4 ATV vehicles. They are fully automatic, inspected, and provide a safe yet rugged means of exploring the Icelandic countryside. Drive these open-air vehicles and get up close to elemental Iceland. Buggy tours promise a bit of everything. You’ll witness breathtaking views of majestic waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and even the Westman Islands, all along an adventurous ride that takes you through vast expanses of black sand fields, tundra, and even across freshwater streams. It’s the perfect tour for a memorable family vacation or an exciting date idea for couples seeking adventure.

Helicopter tours

A helicopter tour is one of the best ways to experience the spectacular Icelandic landscape. Explore epic sights—from glaciers to valleys to mountains, and beyond. An expert pilot will guide you through the skies, ensuring safety at every moment. Choose from a variety of excursions—see filming locations of popular series like Game of Thrones or land atop the Eyjafjallajökull glacier-volcano that erupted in 2010. Fly over the stunning nature reserve of Þórsmörk or the astonishing technicolor mountains of Landmannalaugar. Helicopter tours can be customized to your preferences. Tours heavily depend on weather conditions and may change last minute.

Horse ride

The Icelandic horse is one of the world’s unique horse breeds—a pure descendant of its Viking ancestors from the 9th century. Bred in isolation for a millennium for excellent equestrian qualities, the Icelandic horse has a gentle and friendly disposition and a calm manner, making it a joy to ride. Taking a horseback ride is the perfect way to explore the Icelandic countryside. You can traverse black sand beaches, lava fields covered in moss, or ride alongside beautiful waterfalls. Horseback riding is an activity available year-round, and stable tours are also available. There are several proposed routes for various horseback riding tours that vary in location and duration.
