The world’s northernmost town boasts a rich history and abundant Arctic wildlife. Once a mining settlement, Longyearbyen is now a lively capital where colorful houses meet fascinating museums and breathtaking landscapes. The perfect gateway to Svalbard.
Isfjord: A Fjord of Mystery and Majesty

Sail through Isfjord, one of the largest fjord systems in the Svalbard archipelago, where icy waters are framed by towering glacier fronts and valleys carved by ancient ice. A true sanctuary for diverse wildlife—from Arctic foxes and reindeer to a variety of seabirds—the fjord’s spectacular yet serene scenery offers an immersive journey into the heart of the Arctic.
BMagdalenefjord: A Window into the Past

Step ashore in Magdalenefjord, a land of striking beauty with a fascinating historical heritage. This fjord is as renowned for its jagged mountains as for its storied past of explorers: here you’ll find the remains of a 17th-century whaling station, complete with ovens once used to render whale blubber into oil and a cemetery with 130 graves. The scree slopes and beaches of the bay are also favored by various bird species during the breeding season.
Liefdefjorden: In the Heart of the Arctic Wilderness
(Itinerary 1 only)
Liefdefjorden is a land of striking contrasts, where crimson mountains meet snow-capped peaks. This fjord is a paradise for nature lovers, offering opportunities for hiking and observing Arctic wildlife and flora amid towering cliffs echoing with the calls of thousands of seabirds. The pristine purity and majestic tranquility of this rugged Arctic terrain will leave you in awe.
Good to know: Early in the season, ice conditions may block access to Liefdefjorden.
Moffen: A Polar Adventure Beyond the 80th Parallel

Venture beyond the 80th parallel north to meet the walruses of Moffen Island, basking under the glow of the Midnight Sun. An unforgettable sight!
Good to know: Early in the season, ice conditions may block access to Moffen.
Krossfjorden: Where Glaciers, Wildlife, and History Meet
(Itinerary 2 only)

Krossfjorden impresses with its blend of towering glaciers, rugged peaks, and thriving wildlife. Trace the stories of Arctic exploration and survival along its glacier fronts and historic sites.
Kongsfjorden and Ny-Ålesund: The Ultimate Arctic Exploration

In Ny-Ålesund, nestled within Kongsfjorden, a rich historical heritage has given way to cutting-edge scientific research facilities. Once a thriving mining settlement, it is now one of the northernmost research centers in the world, attracting experts from across the globe. Explore its preserved buildings, learn about its pivotal role in Arctic exploration, and visit the world’s northernmost post office.
An Arctic Adventure Close to Svalbard’s Flora and Fauna
Svalbard’s wild nature teems with animal and plant species as varied as they are unique, both on land and at sea. Whether in the raw landscapes of Longyearbyen or the icy waters plied by the MS Serenissima, each day will bring its share of discoveries.
Ocean Wildlife
The icy waters of the Arctic Ocean surrounding Svalbard are home to abundant marine life, promising thrilling encounters with nature during your cruise. In accordance with AECO guidelines, we will keep a respectful distance from the animals to avoid disturbing them in their natural habitat. Your safety and the well-being of wildlife are our top priorities.

- Polar Bears: The “King of the Arctic” is undoubtedly the most iconic animal of the region. Although it is mainly found on the sea ice, it can also be spotted hunting seals thanks to its remarkable swimming skills.
- Walruses: The Sociable Giants Easily recognized by their long tusks, these sociable animals abound in the region. They love to lounge on the sea ice or along rocky shores, especially on Moffen Island.
- Whales: Gentle Giants of the Arctic Several whale species roam the waters around Svalbard, including the blue whale, fin whale, humpback whale, minke whale, and beluga. These peaceful giants come to feed in the fjords, creating an unforgettable spectacle.
- Seals: Graceful Arctic Residents The Arctic is home to several seal species, including the bearded seal, harp seal, hooded seal, and ringed seal. They can often be seen resting on the ice or swimming gracefully in the cold waters.
- Arctic Birds: A Paradise for Birdwatchers The region is a haven for bird enthusiasts, with its abundance of Arctic terns, puffins, little auks, and black-legged kittiwakes. During summer, the skies come alive as these species migrate to the Arctic.

Terrestrial Wildlife and Flora
Despite its harsh climate, Svalbard’s unique ecosystem boasts a surprisingly diverse range of fauna and flora.

- Svalbard Reindeer: The Arctic’s Hardy Wanderer This small, sturdy reindeer has perfectly adapted to Arctic conditions. You can spot it grazing on sparse vegetation or roaming freely around Longyearbyen, always curious about its surroundings.
- Arctic Fox: The Master of Camouflage One of Svalbard’s cutest inhabitants, the Arctic fox is a true camouflage expert. In winter, it blends seamlessly into the snowy tundra, while in summer its coat turns brown to match the terrain.
- Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan: The Year-Round Resident The only bird species to live in Svalbard all year long, the rock ptarmigan blends into its surroundings thanks to plumage that changes with the seasons. It is most often spotted in valleys and along mountain slopes.
- Flora: A Burst of Life in the Arctic Tundra More than 170 plant species thrive in Svalbard’s tundra, despite its seemingly inhospitable appearance. During the short summer, purple saxifrage, Svalbard poppy, and opposite-leaved saxifrage paint the ground with vibrant colors. These hardy plants play a key role in the local ecosystem, serving as food for herbivores such as the Svalbard reindeer.

Embark on the Adventure of a Lifetime in Spitsbergen

Designed for adventure enthusiasts, this package includes an Arctic voyage along Spitsbergen’s west coast with Zodiac landings for an up-close experience of its majestic fjords and captivating wildlife. Guided by passionate local experts, you’ll enjoy a memorable journey through the pristine white paradise of Svalbard.
When is the Best Time to Cruise Svalbard?
To make the most of Svalbard and Spitsbergen’s spectacular landscapes, we recommend cruising between mid-May and mid-September.
Here’s what the season has in store for you.
Winter Landscapes and the Midnight Sun
May and Early June

To experience Svalbard under the winter sun, we recommend an Arctic cruise between May and early June. The sea ice still partially covers the fjords, and the mountains are draped in their white mantle. The Midnight Sun shines without interruption, making for a truly magical expedition.
Summer Landscapes and Midnight Sun
Late June to Early August

At the height of summer, you can enjoy mild temperatures, a lush green tundra, and a dazzling Arctic flora. What’s more, the days stretch endlessly under the Midnight Sun, bathing the scenery in a unique light. Wildlife and birds thrive, and Svalbard is greener than ever.
Dreamlike Light and Magical Photos
Late August to Early September

By late August, the Midnight Sun fades over Svalbard, ushering in a gentle, golden autumn. It’s the perfect time to capture stunning photos: striking contrasts between landscapes and sky, a serene atmosphere, and clear days… Everything comes together to showcase the Arctic at its very best.
