Sauna Experience – 3 evening sessions

The large glass window in the sauna offers breathtaking views of the impressive Saana Mountain. Refresh yourself on the terrace and enjoy the scenery while listening to the gentle flow of the Cahkal River. In addition to the sauna, a comfortable lounge with a fireplace is also available for your relaxation.

You can enjoy the sauna experience as part of a shared time slot or book a private sauna session.

3 Outdoor Excursions

Explore the wild surroundings of Cahkal with local guides and enjoy unforgettable experiences in Arctic nature.

Snow covers the ground from November to May. The first snowfalls usually arrive in November, at the beginning of the polar night period, which lasts until mid-January. During this time, the sun does not rise above the horizon but remains just below it, painting the sky in beautiful pastel shades throughout the day. In the evening, guests may witness the magical Arctic phenomenon of the Northern Lights.

• Net Fishing & Local Exploration

On this adventure, participants join a local guide to check traditional fishing nets. Net fishing has long been a vital way of life for families in the village of Kilpisjärvi.

The excursion departs from the hotel by sled pulled by a snowmobile, travelling through the surrounding wilderness to the fishing site.

After inspecting the nets, a delicious lunch is served. If luck is on their side and fish are caught, it can be taken back and prepared for dinner at Cahkal Hotel, where it is also featured on the restaurant menu.

• Reindeer Farm Visit & Sámi Culture Experience

The local reindeer farm is located close to Cahkal Hotel, and the visit takes place on foot. Guests meet the herder, who shares insights into his work and the traditional way of life in the region.

There is an opportunity to feed the reindeer and take memorable photos. To end the experience, a short reindeer ride is offered, guided by the herder.

• Night Snowshoe Adventure

The village of Kilpisjärvi and its surrounding wilderness offer one of the best locations to observe the magnificent Northern Lights when the sky is clear.

Situated on the border between maritime and continental climates, the area often benefits from clear skies, providing excellent conditions for aurora viewing.

This adventure takes guests through snow-covered forests, where warm drinks and delicious snacks are enjoyed in the heart of nature.
