Set off to discover an authentic and lesser-known Québec through an off-the-beaten-path itinerary. This journey takes you into the heart of vast natural territories, crossing the regions of the Laurentians, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and Outaouais.

Between immense forests, peaceful lakes, and iconic mining landscapes, you will explore a young and contrasting region where wild nature still largely dominates. One of the highlights of the trip will be a visit to Aiguebelle National Park, a true natural gem offering spectacular panoramas and a complete immersion in Québec’s geological and forest richness.

DAY 1 | MONTRÉAL

Arrival at Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Pick up your car (car rental not included) and transfer to your downtown hotel. The Jonview travel booklet you received contains all the necessary information for your vacation/trip.

You will have the rest of the day to explore the city at your own pace. Overnight in Montréal.

DAY 2 | MONTRÉAL TO SAINT-SAUVEUR (75 KM)

Today, you will discover Montréal, one of the most captivating and vibrant cities in Canada. Visit Old Montréal and its Notre-Dame Basilica, the Old Port, the Latin Quarter, the lively downtown, or the Olympic District. You can also explore one of the city’s fascinating museums, stroll through the largest outdoor public market in North America, Jean-Talon Market, or walk up Mount Royal, called “the mountain” by locals.

Then, depart for the Laurentians, a beautiful region of mountains, lakes, and wide-open spaces, long known as a prime vacation area and a favorite playground for Quebecers. Hiking, cycling, water sports, horseback riding, spas, gourmet routes, and the Route des Belles-Histoires (historic tourist route) everything is possible in the Laurentians, and discoveries are easy and rewarding. Overnight in Saint-Sauveur.

DAY 3 | SAINT-SAUVEUR TO MONT-LAURIER (162 KM)

This morning, stroll through the charming village of Saint-Sauveur. You will be charmed by its vitality and wide range of sports and cultural activities: bike paths, a water park, a treetop adventure course, art galleries. For shopping enthusiasts, head to the outlets in the heart of the village to enjoy great deals.

Then, drive north to continue exploring the magnificent Laurentians region. Stop at the pedestrian village of Mont-Tremblant for shopping or to reach the summit of the mountain. Continue your journey to Mont-Laurier in the Upper Laurentians. Overnight in Mont-Laurier.

DAY 4 | MONT-LAURIER

Day at leisure to enjoy outdoor activities and discover the region. Head to the lake for a refreshing swim. Between swims, relax on lounge chairs or enjoy many activities: jacuzzi, sauna, hot tub, hiking, outdoor playgrounds for children, bird watching, wild berry picking, flora and fauna observation, billiards, and table football. Overnight in Mont-Laurier.

DAY 5 | MONT-LAURIER TO VAL-D’OR (290 KM)

Today, you will cross the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve, an impressive natural territory of over 13,000 km² dotted with countless bodies of water. You will then head north to the Abitibi region and the town of Val-d’Or. Visit the Cité de l’Or and become a miner for a day! Discover the life of miners since the city’s founding in 1934 and experience the unique descent 91 meters underground into a former gold mine.

Alternatively, explore the largest operating open-pit gold mine in Canada, located in Malartic. Visit the processing plant and learn all the steps of the trade, see heavy machinery including massive trucks with oversized wheels, and discover how gold is collected, extracted, and poured into bars. Overnight in Val-d’Or.

DAY 6 | VAL-D’OR TO ROUYN-NORANDA (110 KM)

This morning, head toward Lake Osisko. Located roughly halfway between Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda, Lake Osisko is a beautiful lake offering opportunities for swimming, boating, and picnicking. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and relax by the water. Overnight in Rouyn-Noranda.

DAY 7 | ROUYN-NORANDA

Enjoy the day discovering the magnificent Aiguebelle Park. Among its features are two fault lakes, Sault and La Haie, located on either side of the watershed dividing James Bay and the St. Lawrence River. You can fish in several lakes and streams, rent a pedal boat, pontoon pedal boat, rowboat, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, or enjoy more than a dozen hiking trails in the heart of nature.

Several workshops and guided activities are also available, focusing on environmental interpretation, wildlife observation, and theatrical and family entertainment. At the end of the day, return to Rouyn-Noranda, the largest city in Abitibi with 42,000 inhabitants, known for its contrasts, paradoxes, and as one of the most dynamic cities in the province. Overnight in Rouyn-Noranda.

DAY 8 | ROUYN-NORANDA TO DUHAMEL-OUEST (135 KM)

Leaving Rouyn-Noranda and heading south, you will leave Abitibi and enter the Témiscamingue region. You will notice a significant change in landscape and vegetation along the way. Black spruce forests give way to greener scenery, known for fertile land and mixed forest.

Near Ville-Marie, we suggest visiting the Fort-Témiscamingue / Obadjiwan National Historic Site. Located on the shores of the magnificent Lake Témiscamingue, the site offers many discoveries, including a reconstructed trading post, an enchanted forest, and a lakeside beach. Overnight in Duhamel-Ouest.

DAY 9 | DUHAMEL-OUEST

Enjoy a beautiful day at La Bannik, whether relaxing on the stunning terrace offering exceptional views of the majestic 300 km² Lake Témiscamingue, or taking part in a water excursion.
Alternatively, continue exploring around Ville-Marie: stroll through Centennial Park and its marina along the lake, where summer events and festivities take place; climb the Mountain of the Grotto for panoramic views of the village surrounded by hills and the ever-present lake below.

Don’t miss the chance to meet local producers: blueberry farms, chocolatiers, cheesemakers, maple syrup producers, vineyards, and farms, all reflecting the region’s exceptional microclimate. Overnight in Duhamel-Ouest.

DAY 10 | DUHAMEL-OUEST TO OTTAWA (465 KM)

Before leaving the region, discover more local attractions such as the Maison du Frère-Moffet in Ville-Marie, telling the story of Témiscamingue’s colonization in the late 19th century; the T.E. Draper / Chantier Gédéon site in Angliers, illustrating the history of log driving; or the Fossilarium in Notre-Dame-du-Nord, featuring fascinating fossil exhibits.

On the way to Témiscamingue, you may stop for a picnic at Opémican National Park, one of the newest parks in Québec’s Sépaq network. Bordered by Lake Témiscamingue and Lake Kipawa, the park covers over 250 km² and protects part of the southern Laurentians natural region. It features large white and red pines, rugged terrain, and rocky cliffs along the lake.

To reach the capital, follow Highway 17 on the Ontario side along the Ottawa River. Overnight in Ottawa.

DAY 11 | GATINEAU / OTTAWA

Spend the day discovering Ottawa, the “green capital.” A city of parliamentarians, diplomats, and government, it is calm and relaxed, where residents enjoy many parks daily. Explore Wellington Street and its official buildings, the neo-Gothic Parliament Hill dominated by the Peace Tower, Sussex Drive with official residences and embassies, national museums, the lively ByWard Market, and the Rideau Canal running gracefully through the city. Overnight in Ottawa.

DAY 12 | OTTAWA TO MONTRÉAL (200 KM)

Drive to Montréal via the Outaouais region. Don’t miss the charming village of Montebello, home to the iconic Fairmont Le Château Montebello hotel and Parc Omega, a wildlife park featuring many Québec species.

Transfer to Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport for your return flight.
