Northern lights in Spitsbergen

DAY 1 | PARIS / OSLO

Flight to the Norwegian capital on SAS regular flights. Arrival at Oslo Airport. Free transfer to your hotel from the airport. Check-in to your standard room at the Thon Gardermoen hotel or similar. Dinner on your own. Overnight stay.

DAY 2 | OSLO / LONGYEARBYEN – EVENING AT CAMP BARENTZ

Free transfer to the departure terminal for the flight to the Svalbard archipelago. Flight to Longyearbyen on a SAS regular flight. Arrival in Longyearbyen. Free transfer to the Funken Lodge hotel.

In the evening, experience the magic of being in the midst of nature at 78 degrees north latitude! An evening in the wilderness at Camp Barentz is a very special experience that you should truly enjoy during your stay in Longyearbyen. As you leave the city and venture into the Advent Valley, your anticipation grows. The mountains on either side of the valley loom above you like giants, bathed in the glow of the short night. What awaits you at the end of the road?

Camp Barentz is located in an exceptional spot at the foot of Mount Breinosa, just below Mine 7. One of the camp’s buildings, Barentz Hus, is a replica of the cabin where the discoverer of Svalbard, Willem Barentz, wintered on Novaya Zemlya in 1596. Here, far from the city, you can bask in the breathtaking landscape of Svalbard. At Camp Barentz, there is often an opportunity to spot Svalbard reindeer, and with a bit of luck, ptarmigans, and foxes. Your experienced hosts are also on alert in case a polar bear makes an appearance.

When you arrive at the cozy wooden cabins, you are welcomed by the hosts of the evening. They will serve you excellent drinks and a delicious homemade reindeer dish, accompanied by coffee and dessert.

DAY 3 | LONGYEARBYEN – AURORA BOREALIS HUNTING

Free time to explore Longyearbyen.

In the afternoon, you’ll embark on an exciting excursion to hunt for the Northern Lights in a snowcat. The snowcat is impossible to miss when it parks in front of your hotel, but as soon as you leave the city for the wilderness, the vehicle will appear very small, and the wilderness very vast. A snowcat Northern Lights hunt is an excellent way for people of all ages to leave civilization behind. The excursion is not physically demanding.

Your guide will take you out of the city, far away from the lights of Longyearbyen, and into the magic of the polar night. You will cross the frozen Advent Valley with several stops along the way to observe the Northern Lights.

This is the perfect expedition for those who wish to leave the city safely and comfortably. Due to the polar night between early November and late January, you have the chance to see the Northern Lights at any time of day, even at lunchtime. The lights may appear clearer and more ephemeral than during the night, but they are often more colorful and provide a captivating spectacle.

We recommend dressing warmly so that you can enjoy the Northern Lights from outside.

Flight to Oslo on a SAS regular flight.

DAY 5 | OSLO / PARIS

Flight to Paris on SAS regular flights.
