DAY 2 | COPENHAGEN / KANGERLUSSUAQ
Transfer to the airport on your own.
DAY 2 | COPENHAGEN / KANGERLUSSUAQ
Fly from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq with Air Greenland, giving you 4.5 hours to prepare for your Greenland adventure. As the plane approaches Greenland, the sight of nunataks (mountain peaks piercing the ice sheet) and the vast icy desert signals what lies ahead. Kangerlussuaq greets you with a burst of fresh cold air and thrilling views as the small airport village is beautifully nestled between gentle hills and near the ice sheet. A guide from the local excursion office will meet you upon arrival and assist you with check-in at Hotel Kangerlussuaq, conveniently located in the airport building. After check-in, the guide has arranged an information meeting where you will learn more about the exciting region of Kangerlussuaq and its many excursion opportunities. It is now time to discover the former airbase on a guided bus tour, providing an insight into the fascinating history and nature of the area.
DAY 3 | KANGERLUSSUAQ – FREE DISCOVERY OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
Kangerlussuaq is the only inhabited “inland” area in Greenland, as all other towns and settlements are located along the coast. The climate is continental with very stable weather conditions. This was the main reason the Americans chose this location for their Bluie-West 8 airbase. If you stroll around the area, there are still remnants to see from that era.
For the following days, you are free to explore as you wish. We recommend visiting Point 660, which offers a unique opportunity to stand atop thick, ancient inland ice!
Excursion to the Greenland Ice Sheet, Point 660 (optional)
The Greenland Ice Sheet is the second-largest ice sheet in the world, covering 80% of Greenland, and has always attracted the attention of expeditions and researchers. And for good reason: it’s a truly unique experience to gaze upon the immense ice field and feel the forces of nature. Along the way, we pass by the spectacular Russell Glacier, another breathtaking sight with its vertical ice wall reaching up to 60 meters.
DAY 4 | KANGERLUSSUAQ – FREE DISCOVERY OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Another day with plenty of opportunities. We highly recommend a two-hour dog sledding excursion.
Two-Hour Dog Sledding Excursion (optional)
A dog sledding excursion through the frozen fjord is a wonderful and unique experience. Find your balance, sit back, and enjoy the nature and fresh air, dressed warmly in seal fur clothing – and always keep your camera ready.
Northern Lights Hunting (optional)
If you’re traveling during the northern lights season, you have good chances of witnessing this phenomenon. Kangerlussuaq is one of the best places to see the northern lights in Greenland (some say in the North Atlantic!) due to its very stable climate and virtually no light pollution. We venture away from the base into the night and await the stunning view of nature’s light show. Seeing the curtain of light floating in various shades of green is an unforgettable sight.
DAY 5 | KANGERLUSSUAQ OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
Excursion to Russell Glacier (optional)
Over the years, many travelers have had beautiful experiences at Russell Glacier. The scale of the glacier that meets you at the end of the road is impressive, with its vertical ice wall towering at 40 meters. You might also have the chance to spot musk oxen, reindeer, or even a hare wandering in the hills.
DAY 6 | FLIGHT KANGERLUSSUAQ / COPENHAGEN
Your Greenland adventure is coming to an end, at least for now. The Airbus is waiting to take you back to Copenhagen with an arrival 4.5 hours later.
Transfer on your own to your hotel. Arrival at Hotel Imperial or a similar hotel. Overnight.
DAY 7 | COPENHAGEN / PARIS
Breakfast. Transfer on your own to the airport. Departure to Paris on regular SAS flights.
End of our services.
