Welcome to Nuorgam Holiday Village!

The idyllic family-run holiday village is situated in the northernmost village in Finland – Nuorgam, on the top of EU, by the banks of the famous River Teno, facing the Norwegian border, close to the Arctic Ocean and sheltered by mighty fells.

Programme détaillé

An unbroken silence, pure arctic wilderness and wellness, relaxation, wide-open white sceneries, local lifestyle and vibrant Sami culture with a wide range of activities. A gorgeous place is waiting for you with northern lights and arctic nights!

The small holiday village has 11 cozy apartments with modern amenities (seven apartments for 2 persons, with living room and kitchenette, one bedroom, toilet and shower. Four apartments for 4-6 persons with living room and kitchenette, 2-3 bedrooms, toilet, shower and sauna.

Four new superior cabins for 2 persons with toilet, shower, sauna and fireplace (these comfortably and tastefully decorated semi-detached cabins are situated right on the banks of Tenojoki River). There is alsoa cozy restaurant serving local Lappish-Finnish food, Lappish hut and sauna.

DAY 1 | PARIS / IVALO

Finnair flights to Ivalo. Arrival to Ivalo or Kirkenes airport and transfer to Nuorgam Holiday Village. Meet and greet your host at the Holiday Village. Welcome info and dinner in the restaurant.

DAY 2 | LOCAL WINTER ACTIVITIES

Good morning! After a delicious breakfast you will get the warm winter clothes for the whole stay. Then it is time to start the winter fun activities. Your guide will show you how to use the snowshoes and what is the right technique for cross-country skiing. You will also learn what is a kick-sledge. Finally, you can try these winter activities in smaller groups with your guide. Duration of the program is ca. 2,5 hours. Lunch will be served in restaurant. After lunch you have some free time followed by the Aurora info. Your guide will tell you when and how to see Auroras, how to follow Aurora forecast and how to use camera for Aurora photographing. Then it is time for dinner. After dinner you can go for Aurora hunting by yourself; tripods available for free use.

DAY 3 | SCENIC TOUR IN SNOWMOBILING SLEIGH TO THE FELL AREA

After breakfast you can have a glimpse of living like a local. Snowmobile sleigh ride takes you on top of the fells where you will feel and see the power of arctic wilderness and the breath taking white scenery when reaching the top. Here you have a moment to enjoy the total silence, pureness of nature and amazing views to the Norwegian fells and Teno river valley. During the trip, camp lunch is served in a traditional Lappish hut “kota”. Your guide will show you how to make a fire and tells you stories about nature, wildlife and local lifestyle. During the tour there is possibility to find out the secrets of ice fishing on a fell lake like locals on their free day. If you are lucky the catch can be arctic trout or grayling. You may see also reindeer on the fells. Duration of the whole program is ca. 4 hours. After returning you have time for relaxing sauna before dinner served in the restaurant. In the evening you can go hunting the Northern Lights by your own or book one of our optional Aurora tours.

DAY 4 | VISIT NORWAY AND ARCTIC OCEAN (OPTIONAL)

Welcome to an unforgettable journey! After breakfast transfer to the side of Norway by crossing the EU-border. Visit to an old traditional fishing village of Nesseby in Varangerfjord, located on the shore of Arctic Ocean. Never frozen Arctic Ocean with crystal clear water and ever-changing scenery is breath taking. You will also hear stories about the Norwegian culture and fishing. On the way back, visit to the Sami museum in Varangerbotn, where we can learn about the way that Sami people lived at the seaside fjord. Lunch break in local restaurant. It is also possibility to visit Sami silver shop and buy silver handicrafts. Duration of the tour is ca 5h. After returning you will have free afternoon to relax, for independent activities or you can take a walk in the surroundings and enjoy arctic nature and silence! Possibility for sauna before dinner in the restaurant.

DAY 5 | SNOWMOBILING UP TO THE FELLS AND VISIT A REINDEER HERDER

Today you will experience the beauty and power of arctic wilderness by snowmobiles. Safari will take you to the nearby fells of Nuorgam and all the way to Pulmankijärvi, the border lake between Finland and Norway. On the top of the fells, you can see the overwhelming white winter scenery, wide-open pure nature, enjoy the silence and hear nature whispering to you. Hot drinks and snacks served during the trip. We might see also some reindeer or other local animals. Driving distance ca. 30 km and duration ca. 2,5h, 2 persons on each snowmobile, halfway you can switch places. Lunch in the restaurant.

In the afternoon short transfer by car to the home of local reindeer herder where you will meet your host, the reindeer herder dressed in colourful Sami clothing. You will see the reindeer herder at his work when feeding the reindeer and you have a chance to help him and try how to lasso a reindeer. You will also hear about the reindeer herding, local way of living and more stories about history and modern times of Sami culture, clothing and beliefs. Hot drinks and snacks will be served by open fire in a traditional Sami “laavu”. Duration of the programme is ca. 2h. After returning you have time for relaxing before dinner.

DAY 6 | SILENT HUSKY SAFARI

After breakfast transfer by car to Husky camp which is located on Norwegian side of River Teno in Tana (ca. 30 min. transfer). There you will meet and greet your musher and those lovely arctic animals. First you will be given instruction on how to handle the sleigh and then you will start the ca. 2 h husky safari. By driving your own husky team (two persons per husky team) you will go through the beautiful, silent and spacious winter fell landscape and scenery of River Teno valley and real arctic wilderness giving you an extraordinary experience. After husky safari hot drinks and snacks will be served by campfire. Total duration of the program is ca. 4h, including the transfers. After husky safari you will have time to take photos before we drive back to holiday village to have lunch. Afternoon is free for relaxation and independent activities. Before dinner you have time for relaxing in the sauna.

DAY 7 | FREE TIME – DO IT ON YOUR OWN

Today there is free time for your own activities, relaxation and exploring the arctic wilderness. You can also book one of the optional activities. Lunch in restaurant, or picnic lunch during the activities. Tonight the traditional Lappish dinner will be served in the Lappish hut “Kota” by campfire. The host family will spend an evening with you and during the dinner you will hear stories about local life.

DAY 8 | DEPARTURE – FAREWELL, NUORGAM AND LAPLAND – IVALO / PARIS

Breakfast, check-out and transfer to Ivalo airport.

King Crab Program on the Arctic Ocean – minimum 6 persons
The King Crab Program offers a memorable adventure to catch the largest crustacean in the Arctic, weighing up to 15 kg. The mighty Arctic Sea provides another challenge that you can experience with your professional guide, fisherman, and captain. The excursion starts at the fishing village of Bugøynes, at the harbor where you will meet the fisherman who will take you with his RAB boat into the fjords to catch the King Crab. After the boat excursion, you will have the opportunity to taste this impressive crustacean, as the captain will prepare the day’s catch and serve a full platter of this juicy and tasty delicacy at the Captain’s restaurant in the village.

Duration: The entire program lasts approximately 6 hours (King Crab program by boat approximately 2 hours + lunch at the Captain’s restaurant after the boat excursion approximately 1 hour + round-trip travel time from Nuorgam approximately 3 hours).
