EasyVisit two classic but very different locations in Greenland. First, we’ll explore the Greenland Ice Sheet in Kangerlussuaq, then we’ll fly to Sisimiut, one of the most authentic and beautiful places in Greenland.
This is a unique opportunity to discover how life in the Arctic is lived entirely according to the conditions of nature, and during this eight-day visit, you will get closer to nature. You will see the Greenland Ice Sheet and the glaciers of Kangerlussuaq as well as ice, ice, and more ice in Ilulissat, beautifully complemented by the unique culture and traditional way of life of Greenland in contrast to the influence of modern living.
The Arctic world is a magnificent and unforgettable experience. During this trip to Greenland, you will enjoy three days by the inland ice in Kangerlussuaq and four days in the lovely town of Sisimiut, which promises a wealth of experiences.
Kangerlussuaq – the great fjord
Kangerlussuaq, with its Atlantic airport, is known as the gateway to Greenland. It is particularly well known for its herds of musk oxen and reindeer and, not least, the impressive Greenland Ice Sheet, which, located in its “backyard,” is easily accessible to visitors to the area. You can even climb it under the watchful eye of a knowledgeable and informative guide. We spend three nights in Kangerlussuaq at the Kangerlussuaq hotel, located in the center of the airport.
Autumn and winter are the season of the Northern Lights, so whenever there is a cloudless evening during your trip, you can venture outside to experience this unique and incredibly beautiful phenomenon.
Sisimiut – Today, Sisimiut has 5,500 inhabitants and is the second largest city in Greenland. As a city, it is dynamic but traditional in the best sense of the term. Here, you will find many sled dogs, beautiful colorful buildings, and an interesting museum area, which houses, among other things, the oldest church in Greenland. Located just north of the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut is the northernmost “ice-free” city and the southernmost dog sledding city in Greenland. Thus, visitors can both sail on deep fjords and go dog sledding if snow has fallen.

DAY 1 | PARIS / COPENHAGEN
Departure to Copenhagen on SAS regular flights. Free transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the Imperial Hotel or similar in Copenhagen.
DAY 2 | COPENHAGEN / KANGERLUSSAQ – WELCOME AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
Free transfer to the airport.
Air Greenland takes you from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq – ahead of you, a 4 and a half-hour flight and an eight-day autumn adventure. A guide from the local tour office welcomes you upon arrival and assists you in arranging your transfer and check-in at the Kangerlussuaq hotel, located directly within the airport. After check-in, the guide organizes an information meeting. During the meeting, you receive information about the town, the region, dining options, and excursions, and you can confirm any pre-booked excursions. It’s also possible to book excursions at the meeting. After the meeting, it’s time for the first excursion of the excursion package.
Kangerlussuaq Tour (optional)
Discover the settlement and the area around the town. Kangerlussuaq is a former American airbase, now the main airport of Greenland. We learn all about its exciting history, from World War II to the Cold War, to a modern international airport. The area around Kangerlussuaq boasts the longest road network in Greenland, and we head to several interesting spots and encounter the stunning Greenlandic nature. We drive to the harbor and admire the fjord, pass by Kellyville, a small scientific park 12 kilometers from the airport, and take a tour of the former base area. Naturally, we visit the sled dog kennel, where we come face to face with the Greenlandic sled dog. This tour gives you a quick overview of the town and its surroundings.
DAY 3 | KANGERLUSSAQ AT YOUR LEISURE OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Today, you are left to your own devices, and the beautiful countryside awaits exploration. If you have purchased the optional excursion package, the first stop on the program is Point 660.
Greenland Ice Sheet, Point 660 (optional)
Kangerlussuaq is known for its proximity to the Greenland Ice Sheet, and this is a guided tour of the giant Greenland Ice Sheet, which is the size of Western Europe. In a 4×4 bus, we traverse a beautifully diverse region, and near the inland ice, we pass by the Russell Glacier and a fantastic landscape of moraines. At the end of the road, we walk to the ice sheet and climb onto it, which is a unique experience. You spend some time in this vast glacial universe before returning to the vehicle. During the journey, there is a strong chance of spotting reindeer and musk oxen.
Northern Lights Tour (optional)
On clear evenings, we often have the most beautiful Northern Lights in Kangerlussuaq. We drive into the countryside, far from any artificial light, and let nature begin its show. Later, we return by car and gather in a cozy atmosphere while the guide tells you all about the Northern Lights and the many Greenlandic myths created about the Northern Lights through the ages. A delightful cup of “Greenlandic coffee” will also be served.
DAY 4 | KANGERLUSSAQ AT YOUR LEISURE OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITY FOR THE RUSSELL GLACIER
Ilulissat is located at the mouth of the 50-kilometer-long Icefjord of Ilulissat, which is world-famous and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. The ice is thrilling and can be experienced by sea, land, and air.
Hike to the old settlement near the ice fjord (optional)
Today, you have some free time, and if you have purchased the excursion package, you will head to the Russell Glacier.
The Russell Glacier (optional)
On partially off-road terrain, we drive the exciting road to the spectacular Russell Glacier. With its vertical ice walls reaching up to 40 meters high, the glacier is an impressive sight. The surroundings are spectacular, and there is a strong chance of spotting musk oxen and perhaps even ptarmigans and Arctic hares.
DAY 5 | FLIGHT KANGERLUSSUAQ / SISIMIUT – WELCOME AND OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
Your journey now takes you to the coastal town of Sisimiut, about half an hour west of Kangerlussuaq. The hotel bus picks you up from the airport, and you check in at the four-star Sisimiut Hotel, which will be your comfortable base for the next four nights. After check-in, there is an information meeting with the local guide. Like in Kangerlussuaq, you receive information about the town, the region, dining options, and excursions, and confirm any pre-booked excursions. It’s also possible to book excursions at the meeting. If you have booked the excursion package, there is a cultural and historical city tour by bus after the meeting.
Guided bus tour of the city (optional)
The bus tour of Sisimiut provides a good introduction to the town and local life. The tour begins at the old heliport, which was the only air route to Sisimiut until 1998. The site is currently used as a dog kennel, and the building serves as a youth club. As we traverse the town, we stop at the fish and meat market, where freshly caught fish and animals are available today. We drive up to the highest viewpoint in the town, offering impressive views to the south. Passing by the town hall on the way to the southern part of the town, where many original hunting and fishing houses can still be seen. Finally, we visit the old part of the town in the center, where the original buildings from the colonial era of the 1700s now house the museum.
DAY 6 | SISIMIUT AT YOUR LEISURE OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
This day in Sisimiut is yours to enjoy. There are plenty of ways to have fun with nature in the mountains and culture in the towns, and at the Sisimiut Hotel, various excursions are available for purchase.
Sea Safari in Sisimiut (optional)
We navigate through the archipelago and fjords around Sisimiut, enjoying the stunning view of the mainland and Mount Nasaasaaq behind Sisimiut. Here, we also get a glimpse of marine life with all the seabirds. If we’re lucky, we might also spot seals and whales.
There is a minimum of six participants required. We recommend booking this excursion in advance. Final information regarding completion will be provided during the information meeting in Sisimiut. You will, of course, be fully refunded if the excursion cannot be conducted.
DAY 7 | SISIMIUT AT YOUR LEISURE OR OPTIONAL ACTIVITY
Another beautiful day to explore Sisimiut. If you have purchased the excursion package, a cultural-history walk is on the agenda today.
Cultural and Historical Walk (optional)
Despite the vastness of Greenland, people have chosen to settle in the same regions throughout the ages. Tele Island, Sallinnguit, is one of those places where the past and present intersect. Various Inuit cultures have inhabited the region over the past 4,000 years. There are still objects that testify to this, alongside telecommunications installations that gave the city its modern name, Tele Island. Explore the Inuit culture before the arrival of Europeans. Admire the ruins and enjoy beautiful views of the town and the ancient hunting grounds.
DAY 8 | EXPLORE SISIMIUT AT YOUR LEISURE
On this last day in Sisimiut, you can do as you please. You can visit the museum, which offers local history as well as cultural and historical treats that give you a real insight into what life was like in all regions of Greenland.
You can revisit the places you found most interesting, or you can wander around the town, soak in the atmosphere, and buy some last-minute souvenirs – or perhaps something else. You can even enjoy the outdoor hot tubs at the hotel!
DAY 9 | SISIMIUT / KANGERLUSSUAQ / COPENHAGEN
And so your adventure in Greenland comes to an end. It’s back to Denmark, and forward with the clocks, so it’s early evening when we arrive in Copenhagen. Free transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the Imperial Hotel or similar in Copenhagen.
DAY 10 | COPENHAGEN / PARIS
Breakfast. Free transfer to the airport. Departure to Paris on SAS regular flights.

HOTEL KANGERLUSSUAQ
The Kangerlussuaq hotel is located as centrally as possible, within the airport building itself, so you need to retrieve your luggage and bring it to the reception to check in. All rooms are spacious and offer a view of the so-called Kitchen Mountain or a view of the town and its surroundings. The hotel boasts a highly regarded restaurant and cafeteria, which is the meeting place for all locals in the area and the 220,000 passengers who transit through Kangerlussuaq each year.
HOTEL SISIMIUT
The Sisimiut Hotel is a cornerstone of Greenland’s second-largest city. You’ll find the hotel at one end of the town’s main street, and it’s so close to the splendid nature you’ll find in Sisimiut’s hinterland. Especially in winter, it’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with good trails for alpine activities and, of course, dog sledding. The hotel offers comfortable accommodation and a delightful restaurant, Brasserie & Restaurant Nasaasaaq. There’s also a lovely spa with two outdoor hot tubs so you can enjoy the warm water after a good hike or skiing trip.
