Embark on a true Arctic expedition, a snowmobile journey across Svalbard’s vast winter wilderness to Isfjord Radio.

Travelling 100 kilometers across frozen fjords and through glacier-carved valleys, you move deep into a landscape defined by scale, silence and shifting Arctic light. Guided by an experienced Arctic nature guide, you navigate terrain few ever witness in winter. Reading snow conditions, scanning for wildlife, and feeling the raw exposure of the High Arctic.

At journey’s end stands Isfjord Radio Station, a solitary outpost on the edge of Svalbard. Remote. Elemental.

Days are spent immersed in the wilderness, tracing fresh tracks across the tundra, pausing in absolute stillness, perhaps glimpsing an Arctic fox in winter coat or, at a respectful distance, the realm of the polar bear.

Evenings unfold in deliberate contrast. A warm refuge. A chef-prepared dinner rooted in Arctic ingredients. Stories shared.

This is winter as it was meant to be experienced.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN LONGYEARBYEN & DOG SLEDDING

Welcome to the northernmost city and your Arctic adventure. At Longyearbyen airport, a guide will greet you and take you to our Basecamp Hotel, full of character. After check-in, change into warm gear for your first Arctic experience: a dog sled expedition. At our Expedition Center, you’ll get outfitted with thermal wear before heading to Trapper’s Station, where 80 Alaskan huskies await. Help harness your team and feel the excitement as the sled moves forward. Experience the rush through valleys and mountains, with only the sound of paws in the snow. Back at Trapper’s Station, thank the dogs with cuddles, then enjoy a hot drink and stories in the cozy cabin. Return to Longyearbyen for dinner at a local restaurant, and if the sky is clear, witness the aurora before retreating to your unique room at Basecamp Hotel.

DAY 2 – SNOWMOBILING TO ISFJORD RADIO

Ready for an Arctic adventure? Your day begins with a hearty breakfast at Basecamp Hotel. Afterward, pack your essentials and leave excess luggage behind. At 10:00 AM, your guide will meet you and take you to the Expedition Center for a briefing on the route and equipment for snowmobiling.

You’ll be fitted with a thermal suit and gear, followed by a driving lesson. Then, head west into the Arctic toward Kapp Linné and Isfjord Radio. The landscape changes daily, with beautiful light painting the snow. We’ll enjoy an expedition lunch in the wild, with the route depending on the weather.

By afternoon, we reach Isfjord Radio, a boutique lodge with skilled hosts. Enjoy the sauna with sea views or take a plunge into the Arctic Ocean. The day concludes with a memorable dinner featuring local Arctic flavors.

DAYS 3 & 4 – POLAR EXPLORATION AT ISFJORD RADIO

These two days are dedicated to polar exploration and follow a similar rhythm, with outdoor adventures, meal breaks, and moments of relaxation at the lodge.

Breakfast is served at 8:00, giving you the energy needed to set out and explore the wild landscapes of Svalbard. After a hearty meal, your guide will choose the day’s route based on weather and snow conditions. If conditions allow, we may head south toward the Fritjof Glacier.

Keep your eyes open: you might spot a polar bear hunting for seals—a rare and unforgettable sight.

A lunch break is planned in the heart of the wilderness, surrounded by silence and snow.

Later, return to Isfjord Radio for an afternoon of relaxation. Dinner, featuring local ingredients, concludes the day and prepares you for the following day, which will follow the same rhythm of adventure and discovery.

DAY 5 – LONGYEARBYEN & DEPARTURE

We hope you’ve rested well after your Arctic adventure to Isfjord Radio — and are ready to start the day with another generous breakfast at Basecamp Hotel.

This day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Take time to explore Longyearbyen’s unique culture and stories. We recommend a visit to Mine 3, the Cable Car Centre, or the Svalbard Museum, each offering insight into life at the top of the world. Or simply wander the streets, stop by local shops, and pick up a souvenir or two from your time in the North.

When the time comes, your guide will drive you to the airport and send you off with a warm farewell and maybe a final tip for your next Arctic journey.

The memories, the silence, and the light? Those are yours to keep.
