Detailed program
Accommodation options
Biosphere
Biosphere amplifies Treehotel’s focus on sustainability and natural tourism, helping facilitate the conservation of the local bird population. With a façade containing 350 bird nests, Treehotel aims to decrease the downward spiral of the bird population in the Swedish woods and instead strengthen the biosphere and natural habitat.
The interior is simple and pragmatic, yet due to its checker solid-open conceptual make-up, allows for a range of experiences within a relatively small space. Visitors will during our snow free months have access to a roof terrace – close to the treetop canopies – that offer a 360-degree views of the forest.
Through wrapping the new hotel room in an ecological habitat, guests are provided the opportunity to experience birdlife in close proximity, finding themselves in the epicenter of nature.
Biosphere is accessed via a suspended bridge that slopes from the ground to the top of the trees. The interior of the 34m2 hotel room incorporates rich dark interiors and organic materials inspired by the surrounding landscape, which further serve to reinforce the visitors’ view outwards and to focus on the natural beauty of the surroundings.
As all of the Treehotel tree rooms Biosphere has incinerating toilet and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
Biosphere also has an eco shower, sauna and tap water.
Access to the sleep loft by ladder.
Biosphere was designed by the Danish Bjarke Ingels Group, BIG.
The mirror cube
The Mirrorcube is a truly different tree room, a cube measuring 4x4x4 metres. The room is surrounded by mirror walls which both reflect and blend in with the surroundings.
A tree trunk grows through the room and is enclosed by an aluminium frame, which forms the base of the room. All walls are covered in mirror glass.
On the outside, this gives the illusion that the room is glass from floor to ceiling. However, on the inside, the walls are light plywood, with windows on three of them as well as on the ceiling. Which is a good thing, because on dark nights when the lights are on, you can actually sense that there is someone moving behind the pieces of mirror glass that are not covered by walls.
Another exciting detail hidden behind the mirror facade is a balcony that allows you to go outside the box without being seen.
The Mirrorcube provides excellent accommodation for two guests. Here, you will find a double bed, a toilet and seating where you can socialise.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
The Mirrorcube room was designed by Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård and built by a local Harads company.
The Bird’s Nest
The Bird’s Nest room was created to blend in with the surrounding environment as much as possible. A room for introspection rather than extroversion. Here, you can really become at one with nature and have more time to yourself – in a gigantic treetop bird’s nest that no one else can see into.
You climb into the Bird’s Nest via a ladder and through a hatch in the floor. You then close the hatch, leaving the rest of the world outside.
Even though it is a compact room with small windows, it is perceived as remarkably bright, thanks to the interior decor and the windows which both let light in and offer you a way to look out.
The room is popular amongst families with children, but also suitable for 4 adults. You may want to know that two of the beds are curved to follow the walls.
Those of you staying in this room will have to leave large suitcases in the luggage room of the main building – something you will appreciate when carrying your luggage up and down the ladder and through the hatch.
The room measures 17 sq. m and sliding doors can be used to provide separate bedrooms. In this room you will find a toilet and cushioned seating by the windows where you can enjoy the view.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
The Bird’s Nest was designed by Bertil Harström, who also designed the UFO and our saunas.
The cabin
The Cabin is one of the most romantic rooms. This double room is shaped like a capsule, on view amongst the trees as you walk up the trail from our main building. Its location has been chosen so as to create a platform at the top of a steep slope overlooking the Lule River valley. As a guest, this gives you a majestic view from the room and also a remarkable entrance. A long bridge leads up from ground level, to a door seemingly hovering in mid-air.
Behind the door lie the alternating tread stairs descending into the room. On top of the room there is a a balcony with seating. Over the years, this is a place that many happy couples have chosen for proposals and even wedding vows.
The room hangs in a slightly askew way, underneath the deck. This is done partially to minimise its volume but also to give the room its very own character.
Inside the room, the bed is placed at the centre and there are large windows offering a high-altitude view of the forest and the river. By the windows, you will find comfortable seating.
The Cabin is a 24 sq. m. room, spacious enough for two people, with a double bed, a toilet and a terrace.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
The Cabin was designed by Mårten and Gustav Cyrén.
The 7th room
This is the seventh and newest room, a suite designed to have different ‘experience levels’. The underside of the room shows a life-size photo of the pine tree tops as they looked before the room was here. The stairs leading up to the room have several storeys with vantage points.
Inside the room you will find panoramic windows facing the river valley and the northern lights – the bedrooms have skylight windows for you to view the bright summer night sky. At the centre of the room there is a terrace, formed by a net floor with a naturally growing pine in the middle. Through the net floor you can see 10 metres below you and behind a transparent railing lies the vast expanse of the Lule River Valley. A breath taking, awe-inspiring and perfectly safe place to be. Also, it is practically mosquito-free, since mosquitoes don’t usually fly this high.
The room has a total size of 100 sq. m. whereof the accommodation takes up 75 sq. m. Here you will find five beds, two bedrooms with two beds each and one 120 cm extra bed in the lounge. There is a bathroom and a shower with eco-friendly features.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
The room is dominated by Scandinavian wooden interiors and textiles. The facade is a burnt wood finish, completely unlike that of the other rooms.
Something that makes the 7th Room particularly cosy is a temperature-controlled fireplace that lights itself below a certain temperature on cool winter nights. For summer stays, the room has built in AC, but you can also feel the summer breeze by opening the large sliding doors that face the net terrace, both from the lounge and the two bedrooms.
The 7th Room was designed by Norwegian firm, Snöhetta.
The Ufo
The UFO was designed to be the most unexpected thing you can encounter in the forest. And what could possibly be more unexpected than a UFO hovering amongst the trees? The room contrasts sharply with the camouflaged bird’s nest by the same architect, Bertil Harström.
The room has been cast in a high-strength composite material in order to create a construction that is light yet as durable as possible.
Inside the UFO you are taken to a space-inspired world with a starry sky in the ceiling and an interior and textiles designed according to the same theme. The room has small windows which let light in and allow you to look out. Here, you can also feel the UFO move, as it is suspended on wires and beams connected to the trees.
The UFO has room for five people, with one double bed and three single beds. It is one of the most popular family rooms, however, it is also suitable for groups of adults, provided that the people sleeping in the single beds are not very tall.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
You enter the UFO using an electric, collapsible ladder through a hatch in the floor. As with the Bird’s Nest, large suitcases will have to stay in the luggage room.
The Dragonfly
The Dragonfly is our second-largest room, at 52 sq. m. and 22 tons. The room is primarily used for private accommodation, but can also be used for small conferences of up to 6 participants. Here you will find four beds in two bedrooms, one with a view of the Lule River Valley from the bed and the other facing the calm, wind-whispering forest.
A 15-metre ramp takes you up to the Dragonfly and ends at a small patio outside the door. This too has been the site of many proposals and engagements over the years.
Inside the room, large panoramic windows offer a view of the river valley. In some places, the light falls in a way that almost gives you the illusion of being able to touch the trees outside. Even in the bathroom, with its own shower, you have an amazing view of tall pines and the Lule River.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
The room is a wooden construction with a metal facade which has taken on a rusty brown shade, allowing the room to blend in amongst the pines.
The Dragonfly is spacious enough for two couples, four friends, a family, or as a social space for a larger group staying in other rooms.
The Dragonfly room was designed by Finnish architect firm Rintala Eggertsson.
The Blue Cone
The Blue Cone is built around ease and simplicity, both when it comes to material choices and design. With its spaciousness and beautiful view, it is a highly appreciated room.
The room is a traditional wooden construction with three pillars on the ground, to give sense of height and lightness whilst also providing stability. The terrain below the room is sloped, which adds to the sensation of being high up.
The long, lightly sloping ramp from the other side of the building up to the entrance means that the room is accessible also to those of you who have a disability. In addition, the room has an extra spacious and thus accessible toilet.
All of the Treehotel tree rooms have incinerating toilets and our sustainable Rukkamoinika water system with 3 litres of water for washing your hands.
Inside the room you will find a double bed where you can wake up with the spectacular view at your feet. A reflective mirror behind the bed doubles the view. You can sit in front of the large window and enjoy the surrounding environment. The room also has a sleeping loft with two single beds.
The exterior consists of pinewood shingle, a material traditionally used to cover the roofs of old houses in the area.
But how come a room named the Blue Cone is bright red? There are many stories behind the name. One is that architect Thomas Sandell used Blue Cone as a working name but that he, during the process, found a red colour so beautiful that he decided to go with that instead. Another is the fact that Mirrorcube was going to be its nearest neighbour, which meant that he felt it needed a different colour to stand out more.
If you ask us, the colour is beautiful and the brightly colourful, natural material is a perfect contrast to the smooth, shiny surfaces of the neighbouring room.
TreeHotel access
Treehotel is located in Harads, near the Lule River, approximately 100 kilometers from Luleå Airport. The village has around 600 inhabitants and has a restaurant, a shop and a guest house. When you arrive at the Treehotel, you check in at the Treehotel Guesthouse. Then it’s just a short walk through beautiful nature to your treehouse.
The most striking part of Harads is its magnificent setting. From the Treehotel’s rooms you enjoy fantastic views of the Lule River valley, miles of forest and the mighty river.
Food
Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread at home first thing in the morning is just the beginning of your natural, local menu experience. Move on to a nutritious main course of delicate reindeer or wild moose meat, and finish with an incomparable frozen lemon sorbet garnished with freshly picked berries from the forest. Taste the flavors of the season and delight in a range of culinary activities. Choose a candlelit dinner under the stars on a frozen lake, or a three-course dinner 10 meters high in a tree!
Let the chefs take your taste buds on a journey. Not only will you get to taste the wild-fed ingredients, but you’ll also learn the inspiring history of each dish, like the secret place where the berries are picked, all with precision and finesse.
