Important:
Alaska offers a wide range of accommodations, and we will always try to reserve the best available hotel for you.
**Valdez to Whittier Ferry: The itinerary may be subject to change based on ferry schedules! The ferry may not operate daily, and departure times may vary.
Equipment:
The general rule for clothing in Alaska is comfortable, casual attire that can be layered. The first layer should be something thin and close to the skin (try to avoid cotton). The second layer adds warmth and allows you the option to remove it if it gets warmer (such as fleece or something similar). The third layer should protect you from rain and wind if necessary. For day cruises in Prince William Sound and Kenai Fjords National Park, for example, an additional layer that includes a scarf, hat, and gloves is recommended because it can get cold on the boats. Comfortable walking shoes or waterproof hiking boots are also recommended. A backpack is a particularly useful item to bring. Other suggested personal items include a small flashlight, a hairdryer (as some hotel rooms may not have one), insect repellent, binoculars, an ample supply of prescription medications, and a camera. A duffel bag or soft luggage is most practical for travel in Alaska, especially on small planes and boats. It is recommended to limit yourself to one piece of luggage.
Travel Documents and Health:
As with any trip to the United States, a passport is essential. To be eligible for the Visa Waiver Program, your passport must be a biometric (or electronic) passport, or an optical reading passport for passports issued before October 26, 2005. Your stay should not exceed 90 days, and a round-trip ticket is required. You will also need to fill out the ESTA form online at least 72 hours before departure and pay the associated $14 fee. Be sure not to overlook filling out the forms provided by the flight attendants on the plane, as they are necessary for a smooth departure from the country.
