Detailed program
The Gyrfalcon Islands are a group of uninhabited islands in the Ungava region of Nunavik, Canada. The neighboring community is the Inuit village of Kuujjuaq, located 120 km to the southeast. Although not officially declared, Ungava Bay is home to some of the highest tides in the world. At their peak, tides can reach up to 55 feet in height, an incredible phenomenon to observe from the shore. Here’s a proposed excursion to explore the magnificent territory of Ungava Bay. With a main camp located in the Gyrfalcon Islands, the focal point of some of the world’s largest tides, you’ll have the opportunity to witness breathtaking tidal currents, polar bears, muskoxen, caribou, seals, birds, and more. With modern and secure accommodations and experienced guides, you can relax and enjoy the beauty that Nunavik has to offer.
Day 1 : Embark on the journey of a lifetime
Departure from Montreal to Kuujjuaq approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes later. A member of our team will welcome you upon your arrival and coordinate the transfer of luggage to a bush plane, which will then take you to our Tiercel Island site. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our team. A short walk or ATV will take you to the accommodation, followed by a welcome message from the site coordinator. You’ll have time to settle into your lodging. The evening will conclude with a delightful dinner and a fireside aperitif.
Accommodation
Perfect for two people, the shelters are made of rigid fiberglass and are sturdy and wind-resistant, allowing you to sleep in peace. The shelters are also insulated and equipped with a temperature control device, ensuring a “glamping” experience even during the coldest nights in Nunavik.
