Arctic Retreat was the inspiration of a local family. They are your hosts and, with their friends, they will ensure you a warm and authentic experience. They focus on a high level of personal service throughout your stay. Whatever the adventures of the day, a hot bath in your private hot tub and/or Swedish sauna and a healthy 3-course dinner await you in the evening. All meals are provided and according to a fixed menu, with options to meet food needs, for each day according to seasonal availability.

The experience is authentic in all aspects – from the materials used, from the food used, to the local people working on the site. A stay at the Arctic Retreat is suitable for families and couples as well as private groups. Chalets can be booked individually or for exclusive private stays.

Arctic Retreat is your ideal winter getaway. In winter, our snowy climate allows you to enjoy fantastic winter activities and, as we are located in a secluded place, it is a fantastic place to observe the northern lights. There is a wide range of optional winter adventures with a professional local guide.

Depending on your mood, these can be as peaceful as a massage session or as exhilarating as a dog sleigh ride in the nearby forest. You are welcome to enjoy the Arctic winter lifestyle with us.

When you stay at Arctic Retreat for two nights or more, lunch is served either in the small log cabin restaurant or outside in a nearby lookout or in a picturesque place in the forest.

Access to the Arctic Retreat

The nearest airport is Luleå Airport (LLA), which offers several daily departures from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). The flight time is 1 hour and 10 minutes from Stockholm to Luleå.

A car transfer from Luleå to Arctic Retreat takes about 1 hour.

Alternatively, the nearest station is in Boden and a car transfer from the station to Arctic Retreat takes about 40 minutes.

We can recommend private guided transfers by car or minibus to and from Arctic Retreat and Luleå Airport or Boden Station or even other hotels in the area. Please ask us for information.

If you rent a car, or even if you drive your own, we will of course provide you with clear directions to Arctic Retreat when booking.

Cuisine

At the Arctic Retreat, our cuisine is a key element of the experience. Our own locally inspired cuisine is the basis of the menu and it is complemented, on occasion, by local guest chefs. Together, we use the best local ingredients, including fish, game, vegetables, berries and mushrooms from the region and prepare them with recipes from Swedish and Sámi cultures to create simple, tasty and healthy fantastic dishes. All meals, tea/coffee, non-alcoholic beverages are included in your stay (but not alcoholic beverages).

Care and attention are always given to different tastes and appetites, as well as specific dietary requirements. Breakfast and dinner are served in one of our two warm wooden restaurants. If you prefer to dine in the privacy of your cottage, this is also possible. Lunch is most often served outdoors or in one of the restaurants.

Optional activities

In winter, there is a range of activities. They are all led by your local hosts and/or guides who ensure a very high level of service, professionalism and pleasure. The activities have a cost per person and are a private activity.

We recommend that you plan a maximum per day during your stay to also ensure that you have enough time to relax and enjoy life at the Arctic Retreat.

Most activities from 3 to 4 hours, during the day, include tea or morning or afternoon lunch.

Skiing in the forest, Snowshoeing, Sami family visit, Sami culture in Jokkmokk, Snowmobile safari through nature, Northern aurora hunting, Dog sled ride, Dog sled safari, Elk safari, Aurora borealis photography, White fishing, Ice sculpture, Horse ride, Swedish cuisine.

In summer, many activities available: Visiting a Sami family, guided canoeing, guided mountain biking, supervised fishing, walking, hiking, horseback riding..

Winter Program

Discover the wild nature around the Arctic Retreat by yourself. Enjoy the beauty of the landscapes, the tranquility of the snowy forest, come into harmony with our nature and maybe even see some of the local wildlife.

Our guides will show you how to use big bikes, snowshoes and cross-country skiing equipment and provide you with information on local trails and picturesque sites. They will also provide you with basic information on wild skills in winter, as well as safety equipment and advice.
