Detailed program

Their History

Isokenkäisten Klubi is a place where visitors can easily come and stay! Located just two kilometers from the Russian border, Isokenkäisten Klubi and its hosts, Katja Vira and Sirpa Kämäräinen, promise unforgettable vacations characterized by their joyful hospitality and the surrounding wilderness. Katja and Sirpa are sisters who wish to continue their parents’ work in the family business. They are also motivated by the surrounding northern wilderness.

They believe in this place and want to work here to further develop it. They take pride in providing personalized service to each of their guests. They know their roots and are happy to talk to their guests about life here in northeastern Finland.

Isokenkäisten Klubi offers accommodation, delicious homemade meals, and the best steam experience in the county with their Seven Star smoke sauna. Amid this pristine forest, tourists are welcomed by luxurious natural peace, berry-filled forests, starry skies and northern lights, the crunch of snow underfoot, snow-crowned trees, the midnight sun, and the blue waters of Lake Heikinjärvi. No streetlights are needed at Isokenkäisten Klubi; the glow of the moon is sufficient.

Their Value

  • High-quality service means having a team always present to personally welcome their clients. The service is planned and tailored to meet the wishes of each client or group.
  • Close to their guests, which means a warm welcome, good humor, and a relaxed atmosphere. Each guest’s stay with them is unique.
  • Cozy accommodation, reminiscent of a grandmother’s house with its wooden floors and walls, inviting guests to wander inside with woolen socks.
  • Located amidst nature, this brings the client a sense of and a true experience of silence, with the wonders of the constantly evolving four seasons.

Accommodation

New to the Isokenkäisten Klubi cottages, the elevated cabins offer a first-class eco-friendly overnight experience amidst the beauty of nature.

The hotel rooms are tastefully decorated. The cottages blend well with the wilderness as they have been constructed using recycled materials. They are fully equipped, and all cottages feature a fireplace and a private sauna. Private bathrooms are available in all our hotel rooms, and additional beds are also available.

Restaurant

A flavorful journey into the authentic and traditional cuisine of Kuusamo

Ingredients such as wild berries, herbs, and mushrooms are harvested from the nearby forests, fish from local lakes, game meat, and other ingredients from local hunters and farmers.

In addition to locally sourced quality ingredients, they take pride in the fact that their dishes are handmade in the kitchen, using carefully modernized traditional family recipes. One of their family traditions is hospitality: the dinner table is always abundant.

Meals can also be served in their Lappish hut Helekuta (max. 15 people, advance reservation required).

Sauna

Before experiencing it, you can’t comprehend the sense of well-being that envelops the body after a bath in a smoke sauna. The gentle heat and fragrance of the Seven Star smoke sauna will leave you with an unforgettable memory. The sauna attendant takes care of heating the sauna; they also know how to make traditional scented birch whisks. The sauna is heated with dry birch logs. Heating a smoke sauna isn’t a job for a busy man. Bathing in a smoke sauna is a unique experience, with a treatment of peat and a dip in the lake water, in summer from the jetty, in winter through a hole in the ice. All of this leaves a wonderful sense of relaxation throughout the body.

The smoke sauna is located near the main building, on the shore of Lake Heikinjärvi. The sauna can accommodate 15 people.

In the summer, it’s nice to cool off on the terrace, admire the sunset, and swim in the cool, clear lake water. In winter, the terrace is illuminated by the northern lights and thousands of stars. They are clearly visible in the night sky, without city lights to disturb the view. The refreshing dip in the icy lake water is an experience you will never forget.

They serve snacks, sausages, and homemade salad, or a tasty Klubi pie (fish or meat). Saunas are allowed for alcoholic beverages.

Towels are provided, but bring your own swimsuit as it’s a “mixed” sauna (ladies and gentlemen at the same time).
