The Canadian escape: nature, culture and adventure
Located in the heart of the majestic Great Bear Rainforest, on a 15-hectare property established in 1984, Sea Wolf Lodge invites guests to reconnect with nature and discover the rich Kwakwaka’wakw culture. This establishment in harmony with its environment offers comfortable, rustic cabins, ideal for recharging your batteries after a day of adventure.
The meals, made from local ingredients, allow you to savour the riches of Canada’s north-west coast while supporting sustainable practices.
More than just a holiday, it’s a total immersion in nature and culture, offering a unique connection with this exceptional environment.
The saty lasts 4 days and 3 nights and is organised into two groups each week: the first from Sunday to Wednesday, and the second from Wednesday to Saturday.
The program
Group 1: Sunday to Wednesday
Sunday: Arrival and Cultural Exploration
- 12:15 PM: Guests arrive at the Sea Wolf Adventures office in Port McNeill for check-in and orientation.
- 1:00 PM: Depart by boat to Alert Bay.
- 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Engage in cultural activities in Alert Bay, including:
- U’mista Cultural Centre: Explore exhibits on the potlatch system and Kwakwaka’wakw traditions.
- Culturally Modified Trees: Learn about traditional resource use and sustainable practices.
- 4:30 PM: Depart for the lodge.
- 5:00 PM: Arrive at the lodge, settle into cabins, and prepare for dinner.
Monday: Grizzly & Black Bear Viewing Day Trip
- 7:00 AM: Depart for grizzly bear territory; breakfast served on the boat during transit.
- 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM: Journey into grizzly bear territory to observe bears feeding on salmon. Guided by experienced Kwakwaka’wakw guides, you will gain insights into the behavior and cultural significance of these magnificent creatures. This tour takes place in Indigenous Protected Areas, including key river systems that are vital habitats for grizzlies.
- 5:00 PM: Return to the lodge.
Tuesday: Jet-Boating and River Fishing Adventure
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast at the lodge.
- 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM: Depart for Wakeman Sound for a thrilling day of jet boating and river exploration. You can choose between:
- Guided Fishing Adventure: Target migrating salmon with expert guides from Sointula Lodge.
- Scenic River Tour: Enjoy a serene river safari, observing wildlife and learning about traditional First Nations fishing methods and salmon enhancement projects.
- 5:00 PM: Return to the lodge.
Wednesday: Wildlife Safari and Departure
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast at the lodge.
- 9:00 AM: Embark on a comprehensive wildlife safari through the Great Bear Rainforest, observing a diverse range of species in their natural environment.
- 4:00 PM: Arrive at the Sea Wolf Adventures office in Port McNeill, where the journey concludes.
Group 2: Wednesday to Saturday
The itinerary for Group 2 mirrors that of Group 1, with corresponding days adjusted accordingly.
Accommodation
Orca and Tyee Cabins
- Two log cabins, each featuring two separate rooms with shared front porches
- Each room includes two queen beds and a private bathroom
- Perfect for couples or small groups seeking a cozy yet private retreat
Boardwalk Cabins
- Cedar building with four rooms, each offering a double bed and a single bed
- Each room includes a large private bathroom
- Ideal for travellers looking for a convenient location with scenic views along the boardwalk
Sitka Cabin
- Spacious cedar building with two bedrooms and bathroom
- Bedroom 1: Double bed
- Bedroom 2: Two single beds
- Features a pool table, TV, and a comfortable living space at the front of the cabin, perfect for group relaxation
Cedar Cabin
- Log cabin with two bedrooms and two private bathrooms
- Each bedroom includes a queen bed
- A shared living space with a TV provides a warm, family-friendly atmosphere
Main Lodge
- No accommodation in the main lodge
- Houses the dining room, patio, and bar, offering a welcoming space for meals and socializing.

Activities

ATV Adventures or a guided tour through town: Discovering Malcolm Island and Sointula
Discover the wild landscapes and rich culture of Malcom Island on a guided mountain bike adventure. Depart from Sointula, a charming coastal town, before following trails through forests and secluded beaches to the fascinating beaches where the orcas come to visit.
End the day with a peaceful kayaking trip at sunset. With marine life, spectacular views and a serene atmosphere, this experience combines adventure, culture and relaxation to create unforgettable memories.
Stand-Up Paddle-boarding (SUP)
For a unique perspective on the water, try stand-up paddle-boarding. Glide across calm channels while enjoying the serenity of the ocean. This activity is ideal for those looking for a mix of physical activity and relaxation.
Horseshoes
Unwind with a fun and social game of horseshoes. This classic outdoor activity is great for groups and fosters camaraderie and friendly competition. Set in a picturesque outdoor setting, it’s perfect for leisurely evenings.
Archery
Call on your inner archer and test your aim. With professional equipment, learn techniques and enjoy the art and discipline of archery.
Additional Information
Evenings at the lodge offer the chance to relax, enjoy cultural storytelling, or partake in optional activities like a traditional bone game or dancing.
